Responsibilities:

Responsible for project management and providing mechanical manufacturing engineering support for system assemblies and components from the development phase through production.  Provide direction through mentoring and coaching for peers within Manufacturing Engineering department.

  • Demonstrate leadership of technical projects in support of business objectives, providing hands-on leadership on a daily basis across projects for all business units, assigning resources, delegating responsibilities and prioritizing workloads;
  • Identify opportunities for lean improvements and facilitate the implementation within the production floor environment;
  • Project management responsibilities across both technical and strategic projects, with responsibility for leading teams, defining scope and deliverables, providing technical advisement and coaching, providing regular feedback on project status;
  • Utilize MS Project to plan projects and track performance;
  • Develop training curriculum and materials on relevant manufacturing engineering subjects using a variety of resources, and provide training within department;
  • Originate/evaluate/process/implement changes to Engineering documentation (ECO’s).
  • Develop/design tooling to be utilized in the construction of manufactured products.
  • Provide assistance to the Materials Department on technical issues (drawing changes/interpretation, supplier requirements, etc.).
  • Assist assembly personnel in resolving problems discovered during the manufacturing process.
  • Determine acceptable deviation in materials or manufacturing methods when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain assembly/test documentation.
  • Define and execute projects to achieve cost reductions, process improvements, improve quality.
  • Perform all Mfg. Engr. tasks associated with new product development and release (drawing release, design evaluation for manufacturability and cost, bills of material creation, tooling, and supplier selection).
  • Provide assistance on special projects where technical knowledge is required to complete an assigned task.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the manufacturing engineering group through mentoring and coaching in technical disciplines, business practices and procedures, and general best manufacturing practices.


Qualifications:

BS required in engineering or technical field, MS degree strongly preferred; with 10 years relevant work experience manufacturing environment with a minimum of 2 years supervisory or project leadership experience. Working knowledge of manufacturing processes with core competencies in the following: machining, fabrication, extruding, casting, heat treating, coatings, tools and fixtures. Lean manufacturing expertise in the following: eight wastes, 5S, visual controls, kaizen, kanban, value stream mapping, standard work; and ability to teach lean principles and lead continuous improvement teams. Proficiency with CAD systems and MS Word, Excel, Access, and Project software. Experienced in the following: Root cause analysis; Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T); Statistical process control; Production change board (ECO) and engineering change review; Process at a glance sheets; Gage types and design; Tooling and fixture design; Inspection techniques; Quality control process charting (QCPC); Material requirements planning (MRP); Supplier selection and certification.

 

Strong project management and leadership skills are required for success. Must have excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills; ability to prioritize; be results-oriented with strong personal initiative; highly organized; problem solving ability; strong team player; and excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) to all levels within the organization. Must be results-driven and posses a sense of urgency with bias for action and speed. Must be able to train and mentor teammates on both technical and lean principles.
